"25 million views and all I got was this tee shirt."

 "Congratulations

Your content just passed 25 million views." This message from the Quora forum "Hacking the Afterlife." Basically a small country of folks checking into the Flipside. Happy to share the data, the footage that folks don't pass on. (See "Hacking the Afterlife" documentary on Amazon Prime) https://www.amazon.com/Hacking-Afterlife.../dp/B0981B5M4B

Here's the Quora forum where people across the globe share experiences with the flipside:

Saturday

Chatting with the Flipside via telephone and Audrey Hepburn, Monte Hellman and Laurie Bird

Chatting with Audrey Hepburn, Monte Hellman and Laurie Bird.

Audrey in her job with UNICEF

I didn't ask for Audrey to come and chat with us; but I did have a discussion about her two days earlier, commenting that I always thought I had seen "My Fair Lady" but I had not.

With her pal Oscar

And her performance was amazing, also considering her background fighting Nazis as a partisan. So Jennifer mentioned that conversation, and then Audrey proceeded to talk to us about Earth Day and her love for animals and the earth.

Monte Hellman

At some point I realized we only had a few minutes left, and asked if Luana Ander's old friend Monte Hellman had stopped by. Luana is our class moderator on the flipside. She knew Monte well. She knew everyone in Monte's films well.

So we had a lively chat with Harry Dean Stanton, Bill Paxton, Monte had messages for Jack Nicholson, Robert Towne and Fred Roos.  All the details he talked about were accurate - but the most unusual part was my asking if "Laurie" was there to greet him.

Monte Hellman

Jennifer could not know who Laurie was, or what I meant. But I knew Monte would. And he said he saw his old girlfriend waiting for him - someone he spent four years with back in the 70's, and who left him to be with Art Garfunkel. Laurie ended her own life (as her mother had) at the age of 26. Jennifer correctly reported that Laurie had taken her own life - but then had a message for Art Garfunkel.

Laurie Bird

What makes this unusual, is that when I met Art, I mentioned that I was a friend of Luana's.  He said "I used to date Luana." Startled, because I knew that Paul and she were an item at one point, I said "Did Paul know that you dated Luana?" Art said "No, I didn't bother to mention it."

Laurie in Monte Hellman's "Two Lane Blacktop"
with Dennis and James

What makes this even more mind bending, is after Luana passed in 1996, I got a letter from her old roommate back in her teen years, who said that "Luana used to have a photo of Paul and Art next to a candle, and she would tell her roommates "I'm going to know both of them."  The roommate didn't stay in touch with her, had no idea that Luana and Paul were an item, or that Art and Luana were an item.

Laurie and Art

And here we were chatting with Laurie Bird, an actress who starred in two of Monte's films, who used an image of the "poster of Hair" to identify who she was dating after Monte.  And that image made me laugh, because Art had a giant afro in those days.

When she said "I'm seeing a poster from
the play "Hair" I thought of this photo. Funny.

Mind blown.

A phone call from the Flipside:

I answer questions on Quora in a forum called "Hacking the Afterlife."  This exchange happened recently, and I'm sharing it.

"A very very dear friend of almost 30 years recently passed of Covid on January 19. They removed life support at 4 pm. At this time I had no idea he had been sick (Since Dec 19th and put on a vent at that time.) We had been romantically involved years past and it just faded into a beautiful friendship; almost brother/sister. He used to call me all the time while on a detail (he was a police officer) and there was always noise in the background.

Our calls were a little infrequent during the holidays; he had moved in with his girlfriend so. I understood. I finally received a call January 19 it was at dusk.

"I said where the hell have you been???" We laughed and laughed. The conversation went in for about 2 hours. I actually had to pull off the road I was laughing so hard. And I was almost home. And didn’t want our conversation to end. Funny thing was, he never called at that hour. His work shifts were always around noon, but it was quiet in the background; no noise.

He was so happy like elated !!!!

I said, "Omg I have to go now" as I pulled into my driveway. He always said. "Ok -  adios" and we hung up. The next day I told my friend. “ I talked to Dennis for 2 hours last night. I remember because it was her birthday.

But then I didn’t hear from him after that. I went to call to tell him my daughter had a baby, and his phone was disconnected.  I knew something was wrong. I called his son and he told me (he had died). I said "Omg I just talked to him. In January."

He said, "There is no way you could have he was on a ventilator from Dec. 19th and died January 19."

Richard. What was that phone call !!!!!? I mentioned this call to numerous people. Because it as so wonderful. As all our calls were. Thank you for reading this.

My reply:

Thanks for sharing. It’s one thing to say “I’ve read about something like this” or “I interviewed someone who had that experience” and then to share the experience. When things occur we have to be a little bit like Sherlock Holmes and “eliminate all the other possibilities” to get to the truth.

I’ve heard of people “recovering” just prior to passing (Mentioned in Dr. Greyson’s YouTube talk “Is consciousness produced by the brain”), and there are people who get “cellphone calls” from people not on the planet. Sometimes it’s a word or two - Dr. Elisa Medhus got a call from her son who had ended his life early, and she was startled to hear him say “Mom I’m okay.”

My brother recalled having a long conversation with a good pal the night before he passed - and for two hours they spoke of how influential each other was in their lives, and how much love there was for one another. The next day he died from a sudden heart attack. At the funeral his widow went up to my brother and said “I overheard your conversation, and I’d never heard my husband talk like that to anyone so deeply about love and your relationship.” As if he knew he wouldn’t be much longer on the planet somewhere on the flipside.

The good news is this; everyone is accessible. I’ve been filming people chatting with loved ones for over a decade. Through hypnotherapy, meditation or mediumship. Each avenue yields results. What I frequently record is people saying “He’s telling me “I’m still alive. I’m still here. Just because you can’t see me doesn’t mean I’m not with you.” So there is a methodology to reaching out to your pal and asking the question “What was up with that phone call?” and to get an answer. Tell him we said hello."

Her reply:

"After some research. The phone call came on 1/19/21 at dusk. He was taken off life support on 1/19/21 at 4 p.m. I had no idea that he had passed until the second week of Feb when I tried calling him to tell him about my new grandson. That’s when I found out.

The phone call was light and he was so happy. And I don’t remember what we talked about except I said “Hey, we’ve been taking for over two hours. I’ve got to get in the house." He said, "Ok, Adios."

RIP Dennis

My reply:

"Very cool; again, thanks for sharing.  It’s the kind of experience where it’s done casually and no one thinks twice about it - until they realize the person they were speaking to for over two hours on the telephone was no longer on the planet.

When I first started this research - and the more I think about it, the further the date backwards goes - I remember my aunt, a very religious person saying that her husband had appeared at the end of her bed and woke her up. When she saw him, she saw he was younger, healthier, happy. Just “stopped by to say I love you.”

And the phone rang, awakening her out of her “sleep” to tell her that he passed away.  Her family didn’t believe this story when I told them - literally their own mother’s story.  When we start to share stories, we find that people have had experiences across the board for a long time - if we look into literature or libraries, we find that people have reported these kinds of stories since people took pen to paper.

Oddly enough, he’s giving you this tool to “prove that life goes on.”  By digging up the time stamp on your phone record (you can get them online easily enough) you can demonstrate that he clearly was in no shape to have a two hour phone call - off of life support (!)

I mentioned it to someone just now, and she said “I’d like to know if there was a record, it’s something I’d think is worth finding out.” I said “Well, people who are convinced life doesn’t go on, that consciousness ends cannot be convinced no matter what evidence they see.”

But maybe you can take a screen short of the time stamp.  That would be fun.

Dr. Medhus said she didn’t believe in the afterlife until after he son passed, and called her on her cell. She told me there was “no number” but when she answered it, it was clearly her son’s voice saying “Mom, I’m okay.” Since then she’s spent years chatting with him via various mediums, but that initial phone call was pretty dramatic.

Now if we could just figure out what phone service Dennis was using, and create an app for that… we could all retire!"

And that as I'm fond of saying, is my two cents.

What or Who is God?

Question popped up on Quora today - with regard to why God would let people choose the lifetimes they've chosen, or if that was possible...

My answer, based on the flipside research:

"I suggest opening up the idea of what or who God is. Not a person, entity or programmer per se - but it shows up in the research as this: I brought a skeptic to a session to film a past life regression/between life session (with a Newton Institute trained hypnotherapist.)

On the way there I asked if she had any questions to ask if she met one of her guides: she said “I’m a skeptic. I’m an atheist. I don’t believe in any afterlife, I don’t believe anything you’ve told me about the research, I don’t believe in guides.” I said “So why are we doing this?” She said “I’m having surgery on my ovary, and the doctor said it would be a good idea because it will help me to relax.”

We got to Scott’s office (lightbetweenlives.com) and I handed over a couple of her questions; “What or who is god?” was the one she decided to “ask in case she got somewhere” even though she didn’t believe she’d go anywhere. I didn’t tell him she was a skeptic - I didn’t tell him anything, just set up the tripod and put the camera on it.

In 15 minutes we were in Arizona in 1820 and she was recalling the lifetime of this rancher (details I was able to historically verify) and what a cranky fellow he was. She had a wild session (It’s in “It’s a Wonderful Afterlife”) and then she met her guide in her Akashic library. (Akashic means "invisible" "energy" or "etheric" in Sanskrit) And the librarian said “I'm busy, but I’ll answer whatever questions you have.

So Scott repeated her question.

Michael Newton - one of the hypnotherapist
who trained Scott De Tamble

The guide (speaking through her - she’s saying “He seems like he’s busy and can’t be bothered, but he says he’ll answer my questions.”) He said in reply “God is beyond the capacity of the human brain to comprehend, it’s not physically possible to comprehend.”

I thought that was the end of it - he was literally ducking the question. He didn’t use any gender or objective pov - just said “God is beyond anyone’s capacity - because it’s not physically possible for the human brain to comprehend what that means.”

But he continued;

“However, you can experience God by opening your heart to everyone and all things.”

Now I knew the person saying this was not a Buddhist, or religious - she remains a jaded skeptic of a Hollywood film producer, responsible for behind the scenes production on some big blockbuster films. To this day she doesn’t remember saying it - and that’s why I’m glad to bring a camera. Because I recorded her saying it.

Look at the sentence.

No reference to a being or person. No reference to a creator or creators - just a reference to an experience. And if we want to experience that experience - have that epiphany or that apotheosis - we can.

But to do so we have to do something literally impossible for humans to do.

Some do it with pets. Some do it with family members. Open their hearts in such a way that it constitutes “unconditional love.” Opening your heart to someone is literally that construct. No conditions on that love. Open heart to everyone.

But he added something interesting - and I’ve thought a lot about it since then. Not just “open your hear to everyone” - which could be heard on a pulpit (even when they don’t mean it - because it implies opening up hearts to people they fear or dislike or don’t agree with) - he said “open your heart to everyone and all things.”

So start there.

What does it mean to “open your heart to a thing?” Why would anyone suggest that “opening one’s heart” to an object - a table, a chair, a keyboard - this monitor - a plant, a blade of grass… how could that be an experience of God?

Because by becoming aware of how consciousness functions - how incarnation works - we get the awareness of the idea that quantum entanglement exists not only between objects created in the same space - but between all objects, all things, all people.

And that “holding of space” that atoms do - agreeing to hold space in a piece of wood, concrete, earth - those atoms are all there agreeing to occupy that space… and our awareness that we are connected to all things is like turning on a massive light that illuminates every drop of water in the ocean.

So the idea of “god” punishing, doling out warrants, judging people - isn’t in the research.

What is in the research is that people who claim to have an experience of “god” or being near “god” or being near someone who has more source energy than most - someone who embodies “unconditional love” - they are consistent in their reports of having an experience of “unconditional love.”

So in essence - in the sentence, this librarian on the flipside, via this jaded skeptic of a Hollywood film producer, has revealed that the “path to God” is not only good works, not only being kind or generous or compassionate - but the path to “knowing god” or “experiencing god” is by way of “opening their hearts to everyone AND ALL THINGS.” (Italics and caps added for emphasis.)

Easy to say but next to impossible to do on this planet of negative/positive, yin/yang, dark/light experiences - because opening our heart to all of them means that we love them all equally, embrace them all equally, and share that connectivity.

This is one of those answers that seems to be beyond sense - or all over the map, but inside of it is the “flipside code” as I call the subtitle for “Architecture of the Afterlife.”

It may offend those with a vested interest in a person, object or thing that they deify - but within the answer is the observation that we are all part of that thing we deify, we are all part of that wisdom and compassion, we are all part of the journey - all beings just walking each other home.

We do choose to come here - and the reasons are often based on multiple lifetimes, on knowing the person who asked us to show up over many lifetimes, on reasons that are beyond our stage persona’s ability to contemplate, but completely make sense to our higher self - the rest of our conscious energy sitting in the theater - applauding.

By the way, check out Dr. Greyson's book “After” as an example of how a scientist approaches data that doesn't fit the paradigm. Because its hard to comprehend doesn't mean we shouldn't examine.  As he quotes social scientist Raymond Wolfinger: “The plural of anecdote is data.” (Pg 61 “After")

My two cents.

Tuesday

When you know, you know

“When you know, you know.”

This quote came from an Oscar winning writer yesterday.  We were talking about something that had just occurred – he got some new information from the flipside, the afterlife, that could not have come from anyone else except the person he was talking to on the other side.

It's a bit like talking about skydiving. People who've never done it can have an opinion on it, but only those who've experienced it "know" the experience.

Luana Anders. An avatar in a mirror.

In this case – it was this writer's dog.

I knew his dog well, walked him for three years when I worked for his owner, and had no clue that we could access his dog… until we did.

About a year or two ago, I organized a skype session with him and Jennifer Shaffer, medium extraordinaire. During the course of the session, I was filming, he was accessing a close pal no longer on the planet, when I asked if we could talk to "Hira.” (It's in the book "Backstage Pass to the Flipside" Part one)

                         With Jennifer Shaffer

My friend paused. “Can we do that?”

I said “Let’s see.”

And Jennifer said “Why am I seeing a giant white rug?”  My friend held up a photograph of him – he was a giant Hungarian sheepdog – a bit like a giant white shag rug.  That day we conversed with him – asked him questions, he gave answers that only he would know (about me, about a trip he and I went on together, about a trip he went on with our friend that only he would know about – that Jennifer could not because I did not.)

My friend had a million questions after that session. “How could that be?”

I have done my best to encapsulate the research, the thousands of cases of deep hypnosis I’ve examined, the 50 I’ve filmed, the 50 I’ve filmed without hypnosis – people saying the same thing over and over.  “We don’t die. We know we still exist. It’s you, our loved ones, who pretend we don’t.”

I’ve spoken to friends of this writer, friends of mine – I’ve filmed those interactions and shared them with their family members or the public in the books “Backstage Pass to the Flipside” books one, two and three.

Yesterday my friend had a chat over the phone with Jennifer – just a casual chat saying hello.

And she said “Hira wants you to take a yellow cough drop.”  My friend hadn’t coughed, so he said “What? Why?”

And Jennifer said “I don’t know why, but Hira is saying you used to take these yellow cough drops – and he’s concerned about you, and wants you to take them.  And my friend revealed to her that very morning he had woken up with a cough, and that no one else knew about it.

It’s an example of new information.

The medium, Jennifer could not have known that he woke up with a cough. Could not have known that he used to take these particular “yellow cough drops.”  (They’re specific and special, and believe me, having worked for the guy for years, could only be found in one or two stores on the planet.)  And yet, here was his dog, who passed over 30 years ago – telling him that he needed to take those same drops for his current cough.

Get it?

“When you know. You know.”

                                       With a couple of avatars.

As I pointed out to him, no one else is going to “believe” that they can access their loved ones on the flipside from hearing that story.

In fact, only one person on the planet would realize this to be accurate, that this story was meant for him, that this story would prove beyond any shadow of any doubt that he had, it was true.

But he has an Oscar and I don’t.

In the hierarchical world we live in - he's got a PhD in writing, while I'm just a fellow who films people talking about the afterlife. So until he wants to announce to the world that he knows what he knows, people will have to take my word for it that he said it.

But it made me think of another comment I was replying to. About "PhD's" in consciousness.

This fellow on Quora.com was complaining about my reports on the flipside.

I had posted an innocuous comment in the forum I moderate and created “Hacking the Afterlife” on quora.com:  (It was in response to someone posting about the accuracy of consciousness existing outside the body...)

RM: "Thousands upon thousands of people have had NDE’s that are skeptics, non religious or every variety imaginable. Check out Iands.org for the most reliable source of information on NDEs - and there are quite a few to read..."

This Poster asked: "Why do you think that there is such a thing as a disembodied mind?"

RM: "I don’t think about it much. Or to quote Carl Jung “I don’t think, I know.” Having done six deep hypnosis sessions, having filmed over 100 (50 without hypnosis) I’m aware of how consciousness works when not incarnated in a body.

We have this illusion that it begins with us - like an avatar in a video game believing that they are in actuality the source of their behavior. The research shows we bring about a third of our conscious energy to a lifetime, two thirds is always “back home” where we started from.

All the research points to the same thing; we choose our lifetimes (avatars) we construct them to behave in this environment (as best we can, we have free will to screw things up and often do) and when the game is over we return home and become aware of all the other lifetimes. I’ve been filming people saying the exact same thing for over a decade now, so no - it’s not a belief of mine."

Poster: "You've been filming the exact same thing for a decade now, so in a nutshell, what have you deduced from this?"

RM: "Let's see... I have 8 books on the topic. You want one sentence? Life goes on. Life didn’t begin either - we chose to come here, volunteered for the mission so to speak. We have no awareness of it unless we have a consciousness altered event - NDE, OBE, LSD, meditation or hypnotherapy. .We can bypass the filters. It’s not for everyone - but for those who want to figure it out, there’s a path. In “Architecture of the Afterlife” - I filmed about 50 people doing the exact same journey, saying the same things people under hypnosis said - without any hypnosis. Check it out. Mind bending."

Poster: "We choose to come here? What a load of nonsense. I don't care if everyone rambles the same under hypnosis. People interpret what they want to believe. Science outright rejects an afterlife.

There is no such thing as a disembodied mind. Good day."

(Ah, finally - we get to the opinion of this poster. That materialist science is accurate and non materialist science is not (as they refer to it at UVA, where they study consciousness)  So I replied (how could I not?)

RM: "I'm sorry. Let me amend that. Everyone chose to come here but this fellow.

In all the thousands of cases I've researched, the 2750 from Dr. Helen Wambach, the 7k from Michael Newton, the 100 I've filmed of people accessing previous lifetimes with historical accuracy - half under hypnosis and half not I've finally found the one person who didn't volunteer to incarnate.

I'd pop champagne if I could.

I would offer that there's plenty of science that demonstrates consciousness exists outside the brain.. I could cite the over 100 peer reviewed studies done by Dr. Greyson at UVA, the peer reviewed studies done by Ed and Emily Kelly PhDs at UVA, “Irreducible Mind" or the 1500 cases of reincarnation under review by Dr Tucker at UVA, the 30 years of research by Ian Stevenson at UVA or the 10 years of NDE cases cited in the Aware project by Dr. Sam Parnia… but what would be the point?

This one fellow claims he didn't choose to be here.

I could query all those involved with that choice - parents, siblings, teachers, guides.. I could even query this person's higher self (the two thirds of conscious energy that stays behind during a lifetime) and without this fellow’s awareness here - could learn why he chose to be here and not realize why.

Again - without his even being aware of it here, his higher self knows what I'm talking about. (As demonstrated in the book “Architectureof the Afterlife.”)

But I wouldn't do that.

It would be fun… but it would be impolite. One cannot interfere with a person's path or journey.. people don’t all sign up to know how the play ends… for the most part we aren’t allowed to interfere with anyone’s chosen path or journey… except I just did.

Everyone who has read this reply has a higher self that knows exactly what I'm referring to and by reading this comment has realized it's possible to direct someone's awareness to the research.

Oops. Sorry. Have a good day.”

Folks don't like hearing that no one is dead. Not sure why.

The poster was not finished:

Poster: "You should read Antonio Damasio’s papers. He's a renowned neuroscientist, you are not."

RM: "You should read David Presti’s book “Mind Beyond Brain.” He’s a renowned neuroscientist as well. https://www.amazon.com/Mind-Beyo... or let’s take a gander at Dr. Greyson’s peer reviewed papers:  or watch the video “Is consciousness produced by the brain” where Greyson cites the medical cases where it is not only. https://youtu.be/sPGZSC8odIU

Or these peer reviewed studies about consciousness: https://www.amazon.com/Irreducib...

Or these peer reviewed studies about consciousness existing outside the brain: Irreducible Mind

Or take five minutes to look at the research at DOPS at UVA. It's not my opinion, theory or belief. I turn on the camera, film what they say and am startled that they say the same things the research demonstrates. Division of Perceptual Studies | University of Virginia School of Medicine.”

Poster: "…Also when the brain is put in a dream like state, it can be coaxed into coming out with all sorts of fantastical things which, unfortunately is interpreted as a past life."

My final reply:

RM: "I try to focus on new information. That is - details that can be proven that aren’t cryptomnesia. New information that the person under hypnosis, or not under hypnosis (as demonstrated in “Architecture of the Afterlife”) observes, sees, learns during the experience.

That is not limited to near death events (Dr. Alexander learning he had a sister who had died but never met, Todd Burpo learning he had a sister who died he had never met, David Bennett, scientist who died from drowning for 12 minutes (“Voyage of Purpose”) where he saw the events that would occur later in life - a diagnosis of cancer he would overcome - and then 20 years later it occurred. He’s been studied in the DOPS lab at UVA - perhaps this poster isn’t aware of it - but it’s a place to study consciousness outside the brain (as cited above.) Division ofPerceptual Studies | University of Virginia School of Medicine -

While Antonio Damasio is a scholar (and a neighbor, as I went to USC), he’s dealing with materialist science without the benefit of post materialist research (quantum mechanics visa vis the brain). I recommend listening to some David Bohm (physicist) conversations with Krishnamurti (at the site in Ojai, where they have all online) or a proof of concept exercise. Antonio (or anyone) can visit a hypnotherapist - see what the process entails - do their own session and see what the results are. It’s one thing to talk about skydiving, but another to experience it.

I’ve filmed 100 cases, done six myself - and done the forensic research to see how accurate my memories are (“Flipside” book and film, “Talking to Bill Paxton” film, “It’s a Wonderful Afterlife” interviews with scientists, “Hacking the Afterlilfe” interviews with mediums, “Backstage Pass to the Flipside” interviews with people I knew on the flipside, and “Architecture of the Afterlife” with people not under hypnosis accessing the same information.)

It’s not my opinion, theory or belief these people say the same things. I’m only filming them. I’m a filmmaker you see. I film people and then transcribe what they say. And beyond a shadow of any doubt I have - I could connect Antonio to his parents on the flipside, and prove beyond any shadow of doubt he might have that they still exist and are accessible. But anyone can do that.

I suggest one try, no harm in self experimenting.”

My two cents

Which is my way of saying “When you know, you know.”

Coast to Coast appearance and a note from the Flipside

Just got a note from someone on quora who tried to speak to her loved one on the flipside.

Jennifer and George

Here’s what she got: “I am alive and the death was fake… (as in not real) but in reality I am still all alive."

It doesn't get any more powerful than that.  “I am alive.” That means - “not dead. Not gone.” I hear it often - “Our loved ones think we’re gone. We aren’t gone. You just don’t acknowledge we still exist.”

She heard her loved one say “I am alive and the death was fake” - fake as in, "the body passes away, but the person does not."

I don’t know how to put it any clearer than that. Death is fake.  As in - not real.

We have an illusion that it is real. We believe it is real. We look at a table and don't see the atoms agreeing to hold space. We look at light and don't see the UV rays bees see. We look at a person, and don't see the cancer that dogs can smell. We look at a loved one who is old but see them as when we first met them.

We believe we cannot speak or communicate to our loved ones who have crossed over - so we can’t. How could we? If we don’t believe they exist, how could they ever prove us otherwise?

As Harry Dean Stanton said in "Backstage Pass to the Flipside" "Tell people to believe in the possibility of the afterlife, so then they won't waste another minute of their lives arguing about it like I did."  (And that is literally a quote from flipside. Harry spoke to us a week before his memorial, and what he told me to tell his friends at his memorial blew their minds - because only he could have known those details.)

Finally, she hears from her loved one - “In reality I am still ALL ALIVE.”

Not just “sort of alive” or “part of me exists” - she was specific by adding the word “all” - as in “all alive.” All of me still exists - everything that was my body still exists in spirit form.”  To deny what she's hearing from her loved one is to deny the loved one still exists. And the loved one just proved to her that the loved one does exist.

We tend to forget that our cells regenerate all the time. That in seven years every cell in our body is new. Every seven years we are a new model - and that includes brain cells too. All of them. Gone and come again. None of them stick around.  Every seven years! New all of you! We labor under the illusion that what we knew 7 years ago - the person in the mirror - is the same. Not the same. New.

And people ask me “how can I believe that people still exist?”

I don’t believe - I film others talking to them. I edit the footage. I transcribe what I filmed and put it in the books. From their lips to your ears.

Believe, don’t believe - but don’t ignore those relatives who want to stay in touch with you.  (Or ignore them, that’s a choice.)  Just reporting. (And I will be on “Coast to Coast” with George Noory tomorrow night Tues. 6-16-20 10 PM PST discussing the latest research from Jennifer Shaffer in "Backstage Pass to the Flipside 3" and "Architecture of the Afterlife.")

Sunday

Memorializing Memorial Day and some evidence of the flipside

Mom, myself and Luana traipsing around Rome.
"Dad, why are you taking this picture?"
This question came in via Quora, where I randomly answer questions about the Flipside:

"I truly enjoy your entries. Thank you for sharing the information that you have found. Could I ask one question, though? What drove you to investigate this? Your content is like none other I have experienced before. How did you come about it?"

My answer:

"My best friend Luana Anders died. She started visiting me in dreams. Later that year, I was working in NYC on the Charles Grodin show (Charles was a great friend, and we became friends through her.)

I had seen James Van Praagh on Larry King and suggested we bring him on to see if he could converse with her. (Charles isn't a believer or non believer - he likes to remain open to both sides of any discussion).

So we designed an experiment. I called in the show directly from my home. Only Charles knew I was calling in.

James Van Praagh mentioned a few things, but two jumped out. The cocktail glass collection reference (my last name inspires comic gifts) and a photo on my refrigerator. It was the only photo I’ve ever put up where I said aloud - “Oh look: the essence of our relationship.” (Drinking cappuccinos and laughter. It's reported in “Flipside")

The photograph on my fridge he was referring to. There was only one.
When I put it up I said aloud "THE ESSENCE OF OUR RELATIONSHIP"

When he mentioned it I knew only one person in existence could know the story behind this photograph that he mentioned live on the air.

Later our 3 year old son wouldn't go upstairs. I asked him why. He pointed to the staircase and told me a woman was visiting him. I said “Who is visiting you?” He took me into the kitchen and pointed to THIS PHOTO on the fridge.

Worried he might never go upstairs again, I asked “Does she frighten you?”

He said “Dad. You can see right through her!”

I thought it over and said “Well, does she say anything to you?“

He nodded. “She says “I love you.”

I replied, “Well… that doesn't sound scary, does it?”

He paused, sighed and said “Okay" and went upstairs to bed.

Once one proves to themselves their loved ones still exist - experience won't prove it to anyone else, because it’s experiential - one stops wondering.

I started designing more ways to film or capture that experience. Hence the past ten years, two documentaries ("Flipside" and "Talking to Bill Paxton" on Gaia) and 8 books about the Flipside research.

Here’s the clip where James Van Praagh mentions the photograph - believe, don't believe - but this was the moment I realized there actually is a flipside:

My two cents

Our son’s first sentence:

“Dad, I was a monk in Nepal.”
I had yet to begin my research into the flipside, I was aware of Carol Bowman’s book “Children’s Past lives” (and the subsequent books by Dr. Jim Tucker with ample evidence of reincarnation studies) but this was way before that… this was while I was home in Chicago and my son was on the phone saying goodnight.
He was 2. It was his first sentence to me. As if he’d been waiting two years to say it.
I said “Put your mom on the phone.” We went over “why did he say that?” Asked if they were watching a tv show, reading a book - no, no, and more no. She didn’t know. I let it go. Until he was 3.
One day riding around in the car I said “Son, where did you meet me?” I’m looking in the rear view mirror at his little face in the child safety seat. He looked up at me and said “Tibet.” Stunned, I said “Where in Tibet?” He said “On the path.”
Trying not to react, or over react, I thought about all the paths in Tibet I’d traversed when going there with Robert Thurman filming a documentary for Tibet House in NYC. (“Journey into Tibet with Robert Thurman” on youtube) Then I remembered when we were on the sacred mt. Kailash, Professor Thurman had offered “If you make a wish on this spot, Tibetans say it will come true.” I thought of an appropriate wish… “Hmmm. A million dollars… No, wait, a three picture movie deal.” I couldn’t make up my mind so determined I would count down from ten and whatever came out of my mouth would be my wish.”
“I want a son.” I said. I froze. What? Why did I say that? I had no clue. It wasn’t one of the two options. We had a daughter back home in Santa Monica… but it was the last thing from my conscious mind. I thought “Wow, why did I say that? Is that like a genetic thing that happens at altitude?” I let it go.
But now I was in the car with that 3 year old son. “On the path?” He nodded. “Wait, was it on Mt. Kailash?”
He shook his head “no.” I thought… wow, I was on a lot of paths in Tibet…but then remembered a name… “Was it on Kangra?”
He nodded. “Yes, it was Kangra.”
Kangra is the name of the path that goes around Mt. Kailash. It’s technically more precise, as that is where I made the wish. He was correcting me BUT IN TIBETAN.
But I said “Kangra” and he repeated it. And he was 3. So I let it go. A year later, I was working on the film “Salt” in Manhattan, had sublet an apt, when I got a call from my wife while I was on set. “Did you show him this book?” “What book?” I asked. She said our son had gone to the library of the apt’s owner, pulled two books out, threw one in the trash. My wife said “What are you doing?” He said “That book is worthless. This is the important one.” It was Robert Thurman’s book “Circling the Sacred Mountain” (written with Tad Wise) about his trip around Mt. Kailash.
Our son opened the book, pointed to a photograph of the place where I made the wish, and said “That’s where I FOUND DADDY.”
He was 4. He could not read yet. I told my wife “I’ve never said the word Kailash to him other than that one time in the car a year ago.”
But wait… there’s more.
When he was 5, we were in a Tibetan shop in LA and he disappeared. I mean my wife came and said “He’s disappeared! I can’t find him!” I looked around. Not a big shop. I said “He’s got to be here somewhere.” She came back 5 minutes later with a look of shock on her face. She said “I found him in the back room. He was in front of a mirror. DOING FULL PROSTRATIONS. (The way Monks stand up, hands over head, to lips, to heart, then go all the way to the ground.) She watched him for 3 minutes before he caught her in the mirror.
He said “Oh mom. You need to meditate more and this is how you do it.” He pulled her to the ground. He looked at her and said “Can you hear the bells in the music?” (A CD of Tibetan music “Traditional Chants of Tibet” by the Nechung Monks) was on the player. He said “Whenever there’s the ringing of a bell; that means peace comes into the world.”
I listened to her and later asked a Tibetan friend what it meant “during Tibetan music, when you hear a bell - does that represent something, like wisdom?” He shook his head. “It means peace comes into the world.”
Not something I knew or was aware of. And finally, since he no longer remembers these conversations, I’ll end with this last one. (This is cribbed from a chapter in “Flipside: A Tourist’s Guide on How to Navigate the Afterlife” - “My son the monk.”) I got a phone call five years ago that my mom was dying. My friend the nurse called to say she wouldn’t make the weekend.
I sat the kids down and said “Now look, the next time you see grandma, she’s going to be wearing heavy makeup and will be in a casket.” I was trying to prepare them for my own experience of seeing dead relatives when I was a kid. I thought it was weird they had on heavy makeup and were in a box.
Our son laughed. “Dad, it’s okay.” He picked up a half empty bottle of water. He said “Spirit is like water. Watch.” He threw the bottle on the ground then stomped on it. He started jumping up and down on it gleefully. I can remember looking at my wife like “what is he doing?” He stopped, then picked up the crushed, broken bottle - but it still had the cap on. He showed us the bottle of half empty water and said, “See? The water is okay.”
Easily the most profound teaching I’ve heard about the nature of spirit. Our bodies grow old, they get stomped on a squished, fall apart …but the water is always okay. It may transform into mist, turn into clouds, turn into rain.. but our spirit… is always okay.
One last comment - lest anyone think that only former monks have this kind of ability to “remember their past.” When he was four, we were watching TV and on came a sexy ad for Victoria’s Secret. It was a pretty young model wearing giant white wings, wearing a bathing suit and dancing provocatively. He jumped off the couch, pointed at the TV and said “I want that!”
I laughed, not really knowing what part of the image he meant. But then I remembered what he’d said to me on the phone years earlier. I said “Wait a second, I thought you said you were a monk in Nepal.”
“Not anymore!” he said, happily. “Not anymore.”
What I suggest parents of toddlers do is to ask questions they don’t know the answer to. Ask kids this non denominational question; “Did mommy and daddy choose you? Or did you choose us?” And see what the answer is. The trick is not to judge or react to whatever the answer is. But in about half of the accounts I’ve heard, the answers have been nothing short of amazing.
